More than half of parents do not think sex education should be taught to children at school, according to a new survey. The survey, which questioned more than 1,700 parents of children aged five to 11, found that 59 per cent do not agree with the fact that sex education is often taught to children in schools, even from a young age. Of those that don't agree that sex education should be taught in schools, 41 per cent said it was inappropriate to teach youngsters about the subject, while one in four (28 per cent) said it should be the parents' choice to teach their own child. Contraception was the most popular topic that parents said should be covered in sex education lessons (chosen by 65 per cent), followed by puberty(49 per cent), homosexuality (48 per cent) and sexually transmitted infections (47 per cent).父母認(rèn)為性教育課應(yīng)該涵蓋的話題中,避孕話題是最受歡迎的,有65%的父母選了這一話題,其次是青春期(49%)、同性戀(48%)和性傳播感染(47%)。

American parents say they should be the ones to teach their children about sex but many believe that role is being filled by kids' friends and the media, a new study finds. Researchers interviewed 1,605 parents of school-aged children in Minnesota and found that 98 percent said they should be responsible for their children's sex education, but only 24 percent believed they were the main source of that knowledge.一項(xiàng)新調(diào)查顯示,很多美國父母都認(rèn)為應(yīng)該由他們來向孩子介紹性知識,但是很多人也承認(rèn)孩子的朋友和媒體正在代行這一職責(zé)。研究人員通過采訪明尼蘇達(dá)州的1605位學(xué)童父母發(fā)現(xiàn),雖然98%的受訪者都認(rèn)為他們應(yīng)該負(fù)責(zé)對孩子進(jìn)行性教育,但是只有24%的人認(rèn)為他們是孩子性知識的主要來源。
Instead, many parents thought the majority of youngsters learn about sex from friends (78 percent) or the media (60 percent). "Based on previous research, however, youth indicate that parents are a primary source of sex information for them and that parents most influence their decisions about sex," study co-author Debra Bernat, of Florida State University, said in a Center for Advancing Health news release.很多父母認(rèn)為大部分年輕人通過朋友(78%)或者媒體(60%)獲得性知識。該調(diào)查的合著者、佛羅里達(dá)州立大學(xué)的黛布拉·伯納特在一個(gè)健康促進(jìn)中心的新聞發(fā)布會(huì)上說:“然而,在之前的調(diào)查中,青少年指出父母是性知識的主要來源,而且父母對他們有關(guān)性行為的決定影響最大。”
看來西方國家對兒童性教育的問題也十分糾結(jié),什么時(shí)候該開始性教育,誰應(yīng)該負(fù)責(zé)對孩子性教育,性教育該涵蓋什么話題,都處于爭議聲當(dāng)中……
